Everything's Coming Up Roses

3-22-13_FashionFriday-Pink-BLOG
5 Ways to Rethink Pink
Spring flowers are making their debuts, and you don’t have to be a gardener to appreciate a delicate pastel rose or peony. This season’s color trend is coming up rosy— from the softest pink pastels to bright flamingo pink.
Here are five ways to wear this happy hue:
1. Tone-on-tone ensembles. You don’t have to be matchy-matchy with your pinks. Try wearing deep fuchsia and petal pink together.
2. Blushing tights. While there’s still a spring chill in the air, don a pair of pink tights with that little black dress or a simple A-line skirt.
3. Blooming lips. Find the right pink lipstick or lip stain for your skin tone. Whether your pout sports a shocking pink tone or a purplish cherry blossom, your pout will pack a punch.
4. Tickled-pink purses. Stock up on pink handbags like the Miche Virginia or Dillon and add a splash of champagne pink to your jeans and tee or navy business suit.
5. Golden rose. Pull out your favorite gold jewelry and wear it with your preferred shade—blush or bashful. Gilded accessories make your pink gleam.

Cheery & Confident Coral

Easy tip: add one of these coral shells to your spring wardrobe right now

4 tips for wearing this spring trend

Things are heating up outside. Hasten the onset of the warmest season of the year by adding fruity summer color to your wardrobe. Coral hues are sweet and juicy like a ripe mango or nectarine. This lively color is fun and fiery and looks great on virtually everyone. Enliven your look by adding a dash or a bushel of coral.

You’ll exude confidence when you slip on vivid coral. Here are some tips on how to incorporate it into your look:

• Accessorize with coral: sandals, belts, handbags, necklace or whatever you can imagine
• Pair coral with bright hues—cobalt, fuchsia, aqua or lemony yellow
• Use a single coral accent to bring out the brilliance of a crisp white blouse
• Add coral to a neutral blue ensemble for a zing of cheer

Put it in Neutral

The use of classic neutral hues is a trend that will never go out of style. When you’re gearing up for the day, you want a clean palette from which to build your look. You’ll get great mileage out of neutral pieces in your wardrobe when you:
• Use deeper hues like chocolate brown, charcoal grey, rich beige or
buttery cream layered with varying tones in the same color family
• Wear tones that complement your skin tone. If you’re fair, avoid paler neutral shades, those close to or lighter than your skin tone
• Sprinkle in some shimmer or texture with neutrals to vary and add interest to your look
• Pair a bold accent to crank up the wow factor
Explore variations that look best on you using good lighting. Once you find your favorite neutral tint, you’ll be off to the races.

Wild for Animal Prints ;)

This spring’s sleekest trend will have you purring. Harness your animal magnetism when incorporating feline prints like leopard or cheetah, slinky reptilian skin like crocodile or snake, or a safari-inspired print like zebra or giraffe. Adding animal print is not veterinarian science—it’s actually quite simple.

Here are some styling tips for you to try when you feel the call of the wild:

• Pair leopard print with bright, bold color
• Combine nearly any animal print with navy or taupe
• Pull together a polka dot shirt or skirt with subtle safari print
• Tie on a jaguar-print scarf over a simple black dress
• Don a pair of zebra print pumps with red, orange or stately purple

You’ll be the cat’s pajamas the next time you step out wearing animal print. Grrrrowl!

Miche's simple recipe for wearing patterns

2-8-13_FashionFriday-Patterns_BLOG

Sometimes a little red pepper is all it takes to bring out the flavor of a dish. Putting together a delicious look can be as simple as adding a pattern, or if you’re daring—two. Here are three easy tips for the novice pattern wearer for that will help you look stylish and feel confident!

1. A little pattern goes a long way. Leopard print is nice, but don’t drown yourself. Like using spices when cooking, you want to add a little bit at a time until you feel comfortable. Try an animal-print scarf paired with neutrals or a floral-print handbag with coordinating bright pants. Never wear the same pattern or print from head to toe.

2. Don’t be afraid of color, but keep in mind patterns work best when paired with solids in the same color family. You can get away with more patterns if the main colors are complementary (opposite each other on the color wheel—like green and magenta) or analogous (next to each other on the color wheel—like tangerine and yellow).

3. Busy prints look best with simple styles. If you want to wear a complicated pattern, pair it with classic jeans, a basic black dress and uncomplicated accessories. The idea here is to give the eye one focal point. Remember your choice of pattern will never overpower your look if you balance it with a neutral, uncomplicated ensemble.

Flavor your style effortlessly this spring with a dash of plaid, floral, chevron stripes, checks or abstract patterns.

Bon appétit!

Details, details, details...

01-11-12_FridayFinal_ForBlog

It has been said that the devil is in the details, meaning that there is sometimes a catch or a mystery in the details. It’s no mystery, though, that in fashion the best looks are because of the details. And there’s nothing sinister about that.

You won’t have to go out and purchase a whole new wardrobe to incorporate this design trend. Simply by adding a statement piece or an unexpected variable to your ensemble, you’ll turn heads and feel well put together.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Add one or two colorful skinny belts over a tailored dress or blazer
  • Slip on shoes with intricate weaving, buckles or zippers
  • Turn up the heat with a floral print skirt or pants
  • Carry a vivid contrasting handbag
  • Put on a sparkly headband
  • Mix textures—woolen pants with a shimmery silk blouse
What are your go-to details? Email your favorite photo of a detail you love!
